And the 2010 Houston Open Champ is…
Gustavo “Siri” Pires, takes the Houston Open as the Super Heavy Weight Gold Medalist.
This past Saturday Gustavo “Siri” Pires traveled to Houston to compete and enter the mat’s once again as a Gracie Barra Super Heavy Competitior. He is proud to be an active competitor out there representing the Champions of Gracie Barra. Leading up to the tournament Gustavo put in his mat time getting ready and staying on top of his training & his diet which entailed lots of discipline.
Gustavo found out 2 days prior to the event he would fight once again against competitor, Rafeal “Lovato” Jr. The last time they competed against each other was back when they were both at brown belt level. Gustavo won the fight as Lovato was disqualified for an illegal move. When Gustavo was asked if he was nervous about the fight he stated, ” I am confident in my Jiu-Jitsu this is what I train for, I have a game plan all that’s left is to execute it. ” Before leaving for the tournament in Houston there was a noticeable calmness about Gustavo a sense of peace if you will.
This time Gustavo “Siri” had much more to fight for….He just opened his academy in Mission Viejo a little over 6 months ago and had many students routing for him, along with his family in Rio De Jinero, Brasil. He is a well loved Professor, Friend, and College and has students from around the world including Joinsville, Brasil.
Gustavo “Siri” Pires has been competing under the Gracie Barra family since he was just a kid. He hold many titles from Blue Belt to Brown Belt. He took some time off the competition circuit but as he has shown he is Back and stronger than ever as a Black Belt as he proved in the Nationals, No Gi & in the Miami Open. You can look forward to seeing him in all the major up and coming tournaments proving that he is here to stay! One thing is for sure he has the mental capacity and true calling of what it takes to be a Champion.
Special Thanks to Felipe Pires for Taking these much anticipated pics for us !!
